Baseball Recap: La Joya Community Has No Trouble Against Sierra Linda

While La Joya Community didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 19-8 margin over the Sierra Linda Bulldogs on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Fighting Lobos in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.

La Joya Community let Cayson Hamrick and Saul Chairez run wild. Hamrick got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one triple, while Chairez scored three runs while going 2-for-4. Chairez is becoming a predictor of La Joya Community's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Escobedo, who scored three runs while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: La Joya Community kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 12.2.

La Joya Community's record now sits at 6-4. As for Sierra Linda, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.
