Basketball Recap: Valley Forge Comes Up Short

Valley Forge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 23rd straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Normandy Invaders, falling 58-17. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 758th, while the Invaders are ranked 351st).

Despite the loss, Valley Forge still got an impressive performance from Gracie Kercher, who posted five points.

Normandy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lindsay Meriwether, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 12 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Meriwether is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ziley Minich, who went 7 for 13 en route to 15 points and three steals.

Valley Forge's loss dropped their record down to 0-14. As for Normandy, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6.

Valley Forge has already played their next match, a 44-24 defeat against Cloverleaf on the 27th. As for Normandy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-31 victory against Maple Heights on the 27th.
