Softball Game Preview: Hume Hornets vs. Miami Eagles

The Hume Hornets will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Miami Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Hume is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.

Hume will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Lakeland on Tuesday. The Hornets put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 17-10 win.

Jaylin Toms was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Toms was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Kenzee Snider and Dalley Steuck did most of the damage at the plate: Snider went 3-for-6 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while Steuck scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Steuck also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kamee Snider, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Miami was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Midway, falling 16-6.

Miami's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Hume, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

Everything went Hume's way against Miami when the teams last played back in March, as Hume made off with a 30-13 win. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
