Basketball Recap: Potomac School Falls Short Against Ranked Maret

Potomac School is ranked highly in their home state and on Monday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Maret. The Potomac School Panthers took a 63-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Maret Frogs. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Frogs earlier this season, when they won 54-50.

Potomac School lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Catherine Letendre, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ava Sewall, who posted 15 points.

Even though they lost, Potomac School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

London Liley was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds for Maret. That makes it four consecutive games in which Liley has scored at least a third of Maret's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Austin, who earned nine points along with eight assists and seven boards.

Potomac School's defeat dropped their record down to 16-10. As for Maret, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-8.

Potomac School wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 71-38 victory against St. Andrew's Episcopal on the 20th. As for Maret, they have also already played their next game, a 73-37 win against Episcopal on the 18th.
