Basketball Recap: Hebron Hawks vs. Morgan Township Cherokees
Hebron had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 1-6 to make it 13. They were dealt a 62-31 defeat at the hands of the Morgan Township Cherokees. The matchup was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly the Hawks struggled afterwards.
Abby Popplewell and Avery Groen certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Popplewell posted six points and five rebounds, while Groen had ten points along with six boards and five steals. Alicia Clark also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.
As for Morgan Township, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-1. They have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 28 points or more this season.
Saffy Thompson-Woods was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 28 points and 13 boards. The game was her fourth in a row with at least 15 points. Brooke Parsons was another key player, shooting 67% from the field on her way to 17 points and five steals.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hebron will challenge Knox at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Morgan Township, they will take on Hanover Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
