Preview: Baptist Hill Bobcats vs. Military Magnet Academy Eagles
Baptist Hill is 1-9 against Military Magnet Academy since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Baptist Hill Bobcats will head out on the road to take on the Military Magnet Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Baptist Hill scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They breezed by Lowcountry Leadership on the road to the tune of 67-22. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Baptist Hill has posted against Lowcountry Leadership since January 5, 2018.
Baptist Hill's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zechaia Jenkins led the charge by scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jenkins has scored all season. Sharice Blufton was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Military Magnet Academy stacked a ninth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They really took it to St. John's for the full four quarters, racking up a 107-20 victory on the road. Given Military Magnet Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while St. John's is ranked 180th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Military Magnet Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was DaNariyah Williams out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sabri Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds.
Baptist Hill's victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-8. As for Military Magnet Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Friday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Malaya Hill and Dream Watson. Hill has been dynamite this season: she has averaged 6 points, 5.5 steals, and 3.4 rebounds. For her part, Watson has averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 steals, and 5.9 assists.
Baptist Hill took a serious blow against Military Magnet Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 99-16. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Baptist Hill was down 54-6.
