Baseball Recap: Mesa Verde Has No Trouble Against Pierce

Mesa Verde had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Pierce on Friday. The Mesa Verde Mavericks blew past the Pierce Bears 15-5. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Mavericks this season.

Mason Nelson was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. Another player making a difference was Zahidullah Habibi, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Mesa Verde always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Mesa Verde's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Pierce, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Mesa Verde will look to defend their home field on Monday against Kennedy at 3:30 p.m. Kennedy has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.5 runs per game on average), something Mesa Verde will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pierce, they will head out to face off against St. Helena at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
