Basketball Recap: Pine Drops Season-High Score on Somerset College Prep Academy

Pine has relied on a stalwart defense averaging 27.33 points allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Somerset College Prep Academy Spartans, sneaking past 60-58. The Knights' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Pine's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emily Shirk, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Shirk has scored at least a third of Pine's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Schellenberg, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.

Pine was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Somerset College Prep Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Khloe Rodgers, who almost dropped a triple-double on 21 points, nine assists, and 11 steals. Rodgers is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was London Rolle, who posted 23 points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Pine is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.4 points per game. As for Somerset College Prep Academy, they now have a losing record at 5-6.

Pine will welcome Atlantic Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Somerset College Prep Academy, they will venture away from home to challenge Inlet Grove at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
