Baseball Game Preview: Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights vs. Canyon Springs Pioneers

For the second straight game, Mater Academy East Las Vegas will face off against Canyon Springs. The Knights will head out to face off against the Pioneers at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mater Academy East Las Vegas has three straight victories, Canyon Springs has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Tuesday, Mater Academy East Las Vegas made easy work of Canyon Springs and carried off a 20-5 win. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

Syruss Marshall made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rocky Storla, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Mater Academy East Las Vegas is undefeated when Storla posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Christian Cherry was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Canyon Springs struck out eight times.

Canyon Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, their record is now 9-6.
