Recap: Albany Falcons vs. Columbia Blue Devils
It was a good run, but the Albany Falcons unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 58-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Columbia. Albany was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Columbia apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Several Falcons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Iyana Weedon, who scored 13 points along with three steals. Weedon has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Janae Byrams, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Albany's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-2. As for Columbia, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Albany will take on Averill Park at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Averill Park has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Columbia, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Guilderland at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Guilderland will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while Columbia is ranked 48th).
