Baseball Recap: Gainesville Comes Up Short

Gainesville lost to Buchholz back in April of 2025 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Hurricanes fell just short of the Bobcats by a score of 3-2. The Hurricanes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Cade Dixon was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Gainesville is 3-1 when Dixon allows one or fewer earned runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Gainesville saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Kemph, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Gainesville's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Buchholz, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season.

Gainesville will take on Bradford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hurricanes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tornadoes have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Buchholz, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Suwannee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Bobcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
