Recap: Gouverneur Wildcats vs. Potsdam Sandstoners
The Gouverneur Wildcats suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Thursday. They were dealt a 85-52 defeat at the hands of Potsdam. Gouverneur has not had much luck with Potsdam recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
It was another big night for Ian VanWagner, who scored 40 points along with five assists and four steals for Potsdam. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which VanWagner has scored at least a third of Potsdam's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Theo Hughes, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Gouverneur's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 5-7. As for Potsdam, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.
Gouverneur will head out on the road to challenge AuSable Valley at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday. AuSable Valley has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8. As for Potsdam, they will be playing at home against Ogdensburg Free Academy at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Ogdensburg Free Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 683rd, while Potsdam is ranked 257th).
