Volleyball Recap: Lawrence Central Bears vs. Southport Cardinals
Lawrence Central lost against Southport back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Bears fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 3-2. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.
Lawrence Central wouldn't go down easily and took Southport into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking eight-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 20-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-11, 15-7.
Karis Barnes paced Lawrence Central's offense, picking up 13 kills. Barnes got some help from Evaana Galbreath and her 21 assists. Ryla Arila controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.
Leading Southport to victory were Natalie Vaeth and Avery Kendrick. Vaeth had nine digs and three aces, while Kendrick had 12 digs and two assists. That's the most digs Kendrick has posted over her last six contests.
Lawrence Central's defeat dropped their record down to 11-15. As for Southport, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season.
