Baseball Recap: Bishop Kenny Comes Up Short

Bishop Kenny had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 4-2 to make it nine. They lost 9-1 to the Fernandina Beach Pirates. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Crusaders of the 14-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2025.

As for Fernandina Beach, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1. Considering they have won three contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For Fernandina Beach's part, Preston Matricardi was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Matricardi was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trace Farmer, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bishop Kenny will head out to square off against St. Joseph Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fernandina Beach, they will venture away from home to challenge Wolfson at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolfpack have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
