It was a proper cat-fight when Winston Salem Christian National took on Bishop Ireton on Sunday. The Lions fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 75-72. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Saturday (63), the Lions still had to take the loss.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Elton James, who posted 17 points. Kenyon St.Louis was another key player, putting up 17 points.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Elevation Prep Academy beat Jackson Day 65-60 on Saturday.
Winston Salem Christian National better focus on containing DIDIER ILUNGA and KEVIN RODRIGUEZ as the pair were huge in Elevation Prep Academy's win. ILUNGA dropped a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds, while RODRIGUEZ went 5-for-8 on his way to 16 points. Another player making a difference was TAYVEON EPPS, who put up nine points and six boards.
Elevation Prep Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.
Elevation Prep Academy's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Winston Salem Christian National, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest-scoring teams around. Winston Salem Christian National hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 73.9 points per game. However, it's not like Elevation Prep Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 59.7 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can put up more.
Everything came up roses for Winston Salem Christian National against Elevation Prep Academy in their previous meeting back in January, as the squad secured a 75-25 victory. In that game, the Lions amassed a halftime lead of 47-12, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Wednesday.
