Preview: Walker Wolverines vs. North Cobb Christian Eagles
The Walker Wolverines will head out on the road to face off against the North Cobb Christian Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
Last Friday, Walker's game was all tied up 29-29 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against KIPP Atlanta Collegiate by a score of 67-54. Given Walker's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while KIPP Atlanta Collegiate is ranked 296th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Walker found their leader in underclassman Moustapha Diop, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 10 rebounds. Diop is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Noah Pederson, who scored 18 points along with 9 rebounds.
Meanwhile, North Cobb Christian had just enough and edged South Atlanta out 57-54 on Friday.
North Cobb Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Isaiah Chandler out in front who scored 15 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Gabe Bolden was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with 5 steals.
Walker's win bumped their season record to 4-1 while KIPP Atlanta Collegiate's defeat dropped theirs to 2-2.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's game: Walker have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 6 threes per game. It's a different story for North Cobb Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 5 per game. Given Walker's sizeable advantage in that area, North Cobb Christian will need to find a way to close that gap. Walker came up short against North Cobb Christian in their previous matchup back in January, falling 62-50. Thankfully for Walker, Albert Wilson iii (who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
