Basketball Game Preview: Cristo Rey vs. San Diego Academy Cavaliers

Cristo Rey will venture away from home to square off against the San Diego Academy Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Cristo Rey took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Bostonia Global, posting a 58-25 win.

Cristo Rey's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Xavier Sawaya, who went 8 of 19 on his way to 18 points and six steals. Sawaya has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times he's played. Jorge Alcazar was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine steals.

Meanwhile, San Diego Academy had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.2 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They came out on top against the Serpents by a score of 38-30.

San Diego Academy pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. As for Cristo Rey, their victory bumped their record up to 4-11.

Cristo Rey suffered a grim 56-30 defeat to San Diego Academy in their previous meeting back in January. Can Cristo Rey avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
