Recap: West Valley Mustangs vs. Calexico Bulldogs
On Wednesday, West Valley ended up a good deal behind Calexico and lost 54-36. West Valley has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
When it comes to explaining why West Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Malachi Black. Despite the final result, he scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four blocks. Those four blocks set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Makaio Black, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
Calexico's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dany Carreon, who scored 18 points. The game was Carreon's 12th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Edgar Mendoza, who scored 13 points.
West Valley has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. As for Calexico, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-6.
West Valley will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Rancho Mirage at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Rancho Mirage's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 11 matchups. Calexico's road trip will continue as they head out to face Royal at 12:30 p.m. on December 28, 2023. Royal is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.
