Softball Preview: Laguna Hills Hawks vs. Newport Harbor Sailors
The Laguna Hills Hawks will venture away from home to face off against the Newport Harbor Sailors at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Laguna Hills' offense. They lost 13-0 to Edison on Thursday. Having soared to a lofty 23 runs in the game before, the Hawks' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Laguna Hills saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hannah Russell, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Newport Harbor got the win against St. Anthony on Saturday by a conclusive 15-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Sailors.
Virginia Peterson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and only one walk). Peterson was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
