Basketball Recap: Megan Callahan Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Morenci

St. Augustine Catholic lost to Morenci back in January of 2018, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The St. Augustine Catholic Wolves enjoyed a cozy 55-41 win over the Morenci Wildcats. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wolves.

St. Augustine Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Megan Callahan led the charge by putting up 19 points and five steals. That's the most steals Callahan has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aliyah Preciado, who posted eight points along with 12 rebounds and three blocks.

When it comes to explaining why Morenci lost, don't look at Rozlyn Funari. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 14 points and 20 boards. With that strong performance, Funari is now averaging an impressive 8.2 rebounds per game. Tiara Jones was another key player, earning six points in addition to six boards and six steals.

St. Augustine Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Morenci, they dropped their record down to 8-13 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

St. Augustine Catholic will face off against Desert Christian at 9:00 a.m. on Monday. As for Morenci, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-11 loss against St. Johns on the 18th.
