Baseball Game Preview: Hamburg Hawks vs. Wyomissing Spartans

The Hamburg Hawks will venture away from home to face off against the Wyomissing Spartans at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Hamburg has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Hamburg is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Berks Catholic just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Saints by a score of 3-2.

Tyler Shuey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wyomissing). Everything went their way against Brandywine Heights Area on Thursday as they made off with a 15-8 win. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.

Ryan Graham was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Noah Rauenzahn was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Wyomissing kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.

Wyomissing's record now sits at 11-5. As for Hamburg, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.

Hamburg came up short against Wyomissing when the teams last played on April 8th, falling 11-7. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
