Softball Recap: Riverdale's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

Riverdale dropped their record down to 10-5 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They lost 20-0 to the Fowler Redcats. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Cowboys haven't been shut out since back in March.

As for Fowler, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

For Fowler's part, Jaelyn Quintana made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Quintana has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Fowler let Alexis Alvarado and Danika Serrano run wild. Alvarado went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI, while Serrano went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits Serrano has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Monis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Fowler beat Riverdale by a score of 20-0 on Friday.
