Basketball Preview: Lakota West Firebirds vs. Colerain Cardinals
Lakota West is 10-0 against the Cardinals since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Lakota West Firebirds will head out on the road to square off against the Colerain Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. Lakota West will be strutting in after a win while the Cardinals will be coming in after a defeat.
Lakota West stacked a sixth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They put the hurt on Sycamore with a sharp 49-24 victory. Given Lakota West's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Aviators are ranked 375th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Colerain took a serious blow against the Thunderhawks on Friday, falling 57-11. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Colerain in their matchups with the Thunderhawks: they've now lost three in a row.
Lakota West's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.7 points per game. As for Colerain, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-16.
Everything came up roses for Lakota West against the Cardinals when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 70-43 victory. Does Lakota West have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
