Softball Game Preview: Hamilton Township Rangers vs. Newark Wildcats

The Hamilton Township Rangers will head out to take on the Newark Wildcats at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hamilton Township has given up an average of 10.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Hamilton Township came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Canal Winchester, falling 16-5.

A Keller made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of B Brewer, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Newark brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They blew past Reynoldsburg 14-3 on Monday. That looming 14-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Wildcats yet this season.

Maygen Woody looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.

On the hitting side, Newark got a big performance out of Tyana Spears, who scored four runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Spears a new career-high. Lauren Queen also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Newark hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive matches.

The victory snapped Newark's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 3-9 record. As for Hamilton Township, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.
