Softball Recap: Westbrook Blue Blazes vs. Cheverus Stags
Westbrook had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 5-2 to make it seven. They lost 8-1 to the Cheverus Stags. The contest marked the Blue Blazes' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
As for Cheverus, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-4. The result was nothing new for the Stags, who have now won three games by seven runs or more so far this season.
For Cheverus' part, Addison DeRoche made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). DeRoche has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Hailey Lamontagne was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Abby Kelly was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
