Baseball Game Preview: Gateway Gators vs. Connellsville Falcons

The Gateway Gators will head out to face off against the Connellsville Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Gateway has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 11th.

Fox Chapel hit Gateway with a six-run fourth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Gators lost 10-3 to the Foxes.

Connellsville came out on top against Indiana on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fourth inning. The Falcons put the hurt on the Little Indians with a sharp 10-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won five games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Jett Dunaway spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits.

On the hitting side, Grayden Gillott and Matthew Firestone did most of the damage at the plate: Gillott went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Firestone got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Gillott has become a key player for Connellsville: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Zawislan, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

With the win, Connellsville broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-5. As for Gateway, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.

Gateway couldn't quite finish off Connellsville in their previous meeting back in March of 2019 and fell 6-4. Can the Gators avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
