Basketball Recap: Monterey Trail Mustangs vs. Kennedy Cougars
The Monterey Trail Mustangs waltzed into their match on Wednesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They breezed by Kennedy on the road to the tune of 71-44. Monterey Trail has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 games by 20 points or more this season.
Brandon Gibson Jr continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 23 points along with three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Derron White, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Kennedy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dondre Prothro. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points along with two steals. Aharon Young was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Monterey Trail is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 21-2 record this season. As for Kennedy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monterey Trail will face off against the Pacers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Grant knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 16 matchups -- so hopefully the Mustangs like a good challenge. As for Kennedy, they will head out on the road to face off against the Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. River City is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
