Baseball Recap: Lakeland Hawks vs. Post Falls Trojans
Lakeland extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 5-17 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Post Falls Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 on Tuesday.
Nate Bevacqua and Griffin Tamangi stepped up to the plate in a big way. Bevacqua went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while Tamangi got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Hunter Averitt also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
As for Post Falls, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-10-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.
On Post Falls' side, Marshall Tomlinson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Tomlinson also tossed no walks, which is notable because Post Falls is 2-0-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-10 otherwise. Tomlinson was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caleb Jimerson, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Brandon Felix, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
