Football Recap: Francisco Navarro Leads Baldwin Park's Defense on Thursday

Covina came into Thursday's matchup looking for another win against Baldwin Park, but Jacory Coleman wouldn't allow it. The Braves walked away with a 49-41 victory over the Colts on Thursday for which the team can thank Coleman, who rushed for 232 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making eight total tackles and defending two passes.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Baldwin Park's defensive line and their four sacks. Francisco Navarro was especially locked on to Covina's QB and sacked him twice.

Loss or not, Covina got some senior leadership from Matt Olivas and Roy Vasquez. Olivas picked up 127 receiving yards and five touchdowns, while Vasquez threw for 175 yards and five TDs while completing 73.7% of his passes. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Kevin A Perez, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Baldwin Park has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 52.0 points this season. As for Covina, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, Baldwin Park is taking a road trip to take on California at 7:00 p.m. on the 5th. As for Covina, they will venture away from home to challenge Diamond Ranch at 7:00 p.m. on the 5th.
