Football Recap: Matoaca Drops Season-High Score on Petersburg

Matoaca scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 22-17 to the Petersburg Crimson Wave. The Warriors gained 66 more yards on the day, but it was the Crimson Wave that made the best use of them.

Although Matoaca took the loss, they still got scores from Trevion Mills and Kamari Cherry.

Petersburg had a senior duo take command as Stanley Green threw for 142 yards and three touchdowns and Xavier King picked up 33 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Matoaca's defeat was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Petersburg, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Matoaca and Petersburg could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Warriors will take on Thomas Dale at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (102 vs. 29). Meanwhile, Petersburg (ranked 114th) will meet Dinwiddie (ranked third) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
