Basketball Game Preview: West Cabarrus Wolverines vs. Cox Mill Chargers

The West Cabarrus Wolverines and the Cox Mill Chargers will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. West Cabarrus knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Cox Mill likes a good challenge.

West Cabarrus took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They took down South Iredell 62-48.

Meanwhile, Cox Mill played a tough matchup on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Lancaster and fell 59-30. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 351st in North Carolina, while the Bruins are ranked 73rd in South Carolina).

Despite the loss, Cox Mill saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Madison Alexander posted 11 points in addition to eight rebounds and four blocks. The dominant performance gave Alexander a new career-high in blocks.

Cox Mill has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for West Cabarrus, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.

West Cabarrus beat Cox Mill 56-49 in their previous meeting back in January. Will West Cabarrus repeat their success, or does Cox Mill have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
