Baseball Recap: Durango's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

After a string of four wins, Durango's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Sierra Vista Mountain Lions by a score of 8-7. The Trailblazers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mountain Lions earlier this season, when they won 5-1.

Teagan Payne was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double.

In other batting news, Jayden Shuford made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

Even though they lost, Durango lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Durango's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Sierra Vista, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Durango will venture away from home to challenge Southeast Career Tech at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Southeast Career Tech will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Sierra Vista, they will face off against Rancho at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
