Soccer Game Preview: Havelock vs. East Carteret

The Havelock Rams will head out to face off against the East Carteret Mariners at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Havelock has given up an average of 3.1 goals per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

East Carteret will have to contend with a Havelock squad hungry for a victory, something the team hasn't seen since March 13. Havelock came up short against D.H. Conley on Tuesday, falling 6-1. While losing is never fun, Havelock can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 275th, while D.H. Conley are ranked 128th).

Meanwhile, East Carteret had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 goals) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Pamlico Christian Academy as they made off with a 10-1 win. East Carteret might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by three goals or more this season.

East Carteret pushed their record up to 4-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 22 goals over those three games. As for Havelock, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8-1.

Havelock took their victory against East Carteret in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 6-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
