Basketball Recap: North Branford Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact North Branford can now relate to. They came up short against the Coventry Patriots on Friday, falling 76-53. While losing is never fun, the Thunderbirds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while the Patriots are ranked 18th).

Coventry's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hailey Mayo, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Mayo is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last 14 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Danielle Wheeler, who went 6-for-9 to rack up 16 points.

North Branford now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Coventry, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 22-3.

North Branford does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Coventry, they will take on East Granby at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Coventry is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.3 points per game this season.
