Cannelton is 0-6 against Northeast Dubois since May of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Bulldogs will take on the Jeeps at 6:30 p.m. Cannelton has given up an average of 16.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Cannelton managed to slip by Wood Memorial the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Bulldogs lost 16-0 to the Trojans on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Bulldogs have suffered against the Trojans since May 15, 2017.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Northeast Dubois, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Loogootee on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Jeeps, who have now won nine matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Brycen Mroz was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Mroz was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 11 games.
In other pitching news, Northeast Dubois got a great performance from Carter Fuhs as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.
Back at the plate, Northeast Dubois let Landon Beck and Jake Kluesner run wild. Beck went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Kluesner went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave Kluesner a new career-high. Aidan Sheetz also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Northeast Dubois always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Loogootee only posted an OBP of .269.
Northeast Dubois is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Cannelton, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.
Cannelton suffered a grim 20-0 defeat to Northeast Dubois when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
