Softball Recap: DuBois Central Catholic Takes a Loss

After flying high against Kane on Thursday, DuBois Central Catholic came back down to earth. The Cardinals took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Brockway Rovers on Monday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Cardinals, who until this matchup were averaging 3.75 runs allowed.

Rylee Kulbatsky spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and six unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Maggie Mauthe was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Marina Hanes was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

DuBois Central Catholic's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 8-8. As for Brockway, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-2.

While DuBois Central Catholic had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
