Basketball Recap: Deryian Mitchell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Jack Britt over Seventy-First

If Jack Britt was riding high fresh off their 70-35 takedown of Purnell Swett last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Jack Britt Buccaneers lost 64-42 to the Seventy-First Falcons on Tuesday. The Buccaneers haven't had much luck with the Falcons recently, as the team's come up short the last nine times they've met.

Jack Britt's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was DeRyian Mitchell, who posted 11 points. Mitchell has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Dominic Royer was another key player, putting up seven points and five boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Seventy-First to victory, but perhaps none more so than DeAndre Nance, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. What's more, Nance also racked up three assists, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Noah Staples, who had ten points and six boards.

Jack Britt's loss dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Seventy-First, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.

Jack Britt didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-41 victory against Scotland on the 5th. As for Seventy-First, they have also already played their next matchup, a 68-51 win against South View on the 5th.
