Volleyball Recap: New Castle's Losing Streak Snapped at Five Games

New Castle came into Tuesday's match having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against the Pendleton Heights Arabians by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-0 on September 6th.

New Castle had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-21.

Akiyah Turner paced New Castle's offense, picking up 20 kills. Turner got some help from Megan Luce and her 35 assists. Turner was also solid from the service line: she led the team with five aces.

Despite the defeat, Pendleton Heights saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Stella Short had 14 digs. Those 14 digs set a new season-high mark for Short.

New Castle's victory bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Pendleton Heights, their loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 12-13.

New Castle wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against New Palestine on the 25th. Pendleton Heights has also already played their next contest (against Madison-Grant), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
