Basketball Game Preview: Smithville Smithies vs. Mogadore Wildcats

The Smithville Smithies will be taking part in a tournament against the Mogadore Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Smithville is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Bard Early College: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Smithville blew Bard Early College out of the water with a 67-26 final score. The Smithies have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Mogadore didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Black River on Friday, but they still walked away with a 57-52 win.

Smithville is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points over those games. Mogadore's victory bumped their record up to 9-13.

Smithville came up short against Mogadore in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 54-47. Can Smithville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
