Basketball Game Preview: Waldron Mohawks vs. Triton Central Tigers

Waldron is 1-9 against Triton Central since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mohawks will take on the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Triton Central took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Waldron, who comes in off a win.

Waldron is headed out to face Triton Central after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. The Mohawks blew past Knightstown 71-51 on Saturday. The Mohawks not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since January 31st (when they won 56-19).

Waldron found their leader in sophomore Eli Stewart, who went 9-for-15 on his way to 23 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Luke Myers was another key player, shooting 56% from the field to rack up 14 points.

Meanwhile, Triton Central came up short against Shelbyville on Saturday and fell 52-39. The Tigers have struggled against the Golden Bears recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Waldron will have to contain Eli Sego as he made an impact in Triton Central's last game. He posted 21 points and three steals. The game was Sego's third in a row with at least 21 points.

Waldron ended up a good deal behind Triton Central when the teams last played back in January, losing 76-58. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sego, who went 8-for-16 en route to 27 points along with six assists and five boards. Now that the Mohawks know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
