Baseball Recap: Ashe County Comes Up Short

Ashe County saw some tournament action on Wednesday. They fell just short of the East Burke Cavaliers by a score of 4-3.

Hayden Goodman was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Ashe County is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 8-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Ashe County saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Drew Cheek, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Ashe County has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season. As for East Burke, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

Ashe County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-4 loss against Freedom on the 23rd. As for East Burke, they have also already played their next match, a 5-4 win against Patton on the 23rd.
