Softball Preview: Conner Cougars vs. Boone County Rebels
Conner and Boone County are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Conner Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Boone County Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Conner is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
In what's become a running theme this season, Conner gave their fans yet another huge win on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Pendleton County with a sharp 9-1 victory.
Mollie Sharp made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Sharp was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double.
In other batting news, Katie Hammond was incredible, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Jalyn Cain was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Boone County made sure to put some runs up on the board against Bishop Brossart on Thursday. Boone County came out on top against Bishop Brossart by a score of 13-8.
Dani Wright was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Ava Mayfield, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Conner's record now sits at 11-9. As for Boone County, their record is now 5-14.
Conner beat Boone County 7-2 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for Conner since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
