Softball Game Preview: Cesar Chavez Champions vs. Tucson High Magnet School Badgers

The Cesar Chavez Champions will challenge the Tucson High Magnet School Badgers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cesar Chavez will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Cesar Chavez gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 21-9 margin over Camelback. The Champions haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Cesar Chavez got a massive performance out of Nayeli Delgado, who went 4-for-5 with four runs and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Delgado a new career-high. Mariah Flores was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Cesar Chavez kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Tucson High Magnet School came tearing into Tuesday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Pumas a 3-0 shutout.

Tucson High Magnet School's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-8. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Cesar Chavez, their win bumped their record up to 5-15.

Cesar Chavez suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to Tucson High Magnet School in their previous matchup back in April of 2019. Can the Champions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
