South waltzed into their matchup on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They wrapped up 2024 with a 51-36 win over the Peninsula Panthers. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 197th, while the Panthers are ranked 741st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

South has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.4 points per game. As for Peninsula, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-9.

When South and Peninsula next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. South will try to stop Fountain Valley's three-game winning streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Similarly, Peninsula will face off against View Park and their five-game winning streak at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
