Baseball Recap: Cherry Creek's Run of 15 Straight Wins Now Over

Cherry Creek dropped their record down to 16-5-1 on Friday, which also ended the team's 15-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Grandview Wolves by a score of 3-2. The Bruins were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolves apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Cherry Creek got a good showing from Max Goldberg, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Goldberg has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cherry Creek saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Schultz, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

As for Grandview, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 19-3. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.

On Grandview's side, Ethan Wachsmann made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Wachsmann was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other pitching news, Josiah Giron looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

While Cherry Creek had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
