Softball Game Preview: South Rebels vs. West Geauga Wolverines

The South Rebels will face off against the West Geauga Wolverines at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

South is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Chardon just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Hilltoppers by a score of 6-5.

Violet Dichazy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Halle Zupancic was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Makayla Schneider, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for West Geauga, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They blew past Kirtland 12-2 on Monday. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by ten runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Morgan Atwara, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dayana Malone, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

West Geauga always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

West Geauga's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for South, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-4.
