Baseball Game Preview: Merrimack Tomahawks vs. Spaulding Red Raiders

The Merrimack Tomahawks are taking a road trip to square off against the Spaulding Red Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Things were looking good for Merrimack after they put the first runs on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Goffstown, falling 13-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Tomahawks in their meetings with the Grizzlies: they've now lost three in a row.

Merrimack saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Sousa, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Spaulding came up short against Timberlane on Wednesday and fell 4-1. The Red Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Merrimack's record is now 0-2-1. As for Spaulding, they now have a losing record of 2-3-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Merrimack has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Spaulding struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Merrimack beat Spaulding 8-4 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Tomahawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
