Baseball Recap: Fitzgerald Has No Trouble Against Merritt Academy

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Warren Woods-Tower, Fitzgerald was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Everything went their way against the Merritt Academy Mustangs as they made off with a 9-2 victory.

Thomas Baranski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 16 Ks. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 6.2 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, Dexter Garda was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Dylan Bush also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Fitzgerald's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Merritt Academy, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fitzgerald will welcome Farber Hebrew Day at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. As for Merritt Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Capac at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
