Basketball Game Preview: Calhoun Tigers vs. Highland Home Flying Squadron

The Calhoun Tigers are taking a road trip to take on the Highland Home Flying Squadron at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Calhoun is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Central 64-19. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Tigers with their most commanding win of the season.

Alivia Mason and Mariah Champion were among the main playmakers for Calhoun as the former went 8 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 34 points and eight steals and the latter almost dropped a triple-double on 12 points, 11 rebounds, and nine steals. The dominant performance also gave Champion a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was MaKayla Saffold, who posted four points and eight boards.

Calhoun was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Highland Home had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 44.8 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They snuck past the Tigers with a 60-55 victory.

Highland Home's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-8. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.7 points per game. As for Calhoun, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-13 record this season.

Calhoun came up short against Highland Home in their previous meeting on Friday, falling 60-55. Can Calhoun avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
