Softball Recap: Lincoln Takes a Loss

Lincoln fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Balboa on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Buccaneers by a score of 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Ventura Van-Zandt put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 7.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Brienna Tsui was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Quincy Fong-McAdams was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.

Lincoln has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-5 record this season. As for Balboa, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.

Looking ahead, Lincoln will venture away from home to take on South San Francisco at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 10.7 runs per game this season. As for Balboa, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Galileo at 3:30 p.m.
